Work has now begun on the new ferry terminal and ferry pier. The background is that traffic across the Kvarken, between Umeå and Vaasa, plays a major role in the transport link (Nordic Logistic Corridor) that exists between Sweden, on to Norway, and Finland, further out in Europe and Asia. Wasaline's new Ro-pax ferry, Aurora Botnia, secures this strategic link. At the same time it requires an adapted pier, quay and ferry terminal to be able to dock in Umeå harbor in the spring of 2021.

The pier is crowded. At the same time as the pier is strengthened, the remaining part of the old passenger passage needs to be demolished. To be able to carry out these two works in parallel, the passenger aisle is taken down with a crane standing on a barge. It is an exciting job that requires experience and skill as the sea is rarely calm.

The work is in full swing to get the climate shell ready for the new terminal extension. The climate shell consists of a facade and roof and makes the building resistant to wind and water. This is an important step to continue the indoor wok as it allows the building to dry up.
The workforce consists of approx. 25 persons on site. Machines: Teleporter, mobile crane, sheet piling machine, piling machine, loading machine, wheel excavator and wheel loader.
Remaining part of the passenger aisle to be dismantled.
